Beeswax wrap is a popular food wrap product made from a coated paper, most often paperboard. It is usually made from infusing pure beeswax, soybean oil, rosin, and jojoba wax into the paper. The wrapping is sticky, malleable, and moldable. It can even be shaped around food items or containers.
Create Your Own Beeswax Wraps
It’s quite easy to make your own beeswax wrap: you just have to find a simple and clean fabric like cotton, silk, polyester, or Terry cloth (cotton/polyester mix), cut strips of PVC, or even fabric scraps. Make sure that you use a good fabric with lots of stretch and wrinkle resistance. Put the material on your kitchen counter or wherever you intend to put it. Wrap the strip around your container of choice, add a little water if necessary and stick it in the freezer.
Once done, you have the ability to create some very unique and personal gifts. For example, I would love to give my mother a beeswax wrap to take on vacation – one large piece of cling wrap attached to one medium size ziplock bag. I could also do this same thing with my husband’s favorite bottle of wine, one small piece of cling wrap attached to one large one medium size ziplock bag. We are planning on taking a camping trip next summer, so this might be a great gift idea as well!
