The first of our case studies was on Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside, a neighborhood where overdoses, homelessness, and poverty are prevalent. Students in Dr. Catherine Pearl’s Social Enterprising course were introduced to the organizations and thought leaders of social enterprises. Two of the most notable examples are Lourdes Juan and Larissa Crawford, who founded Fresh Routes and the Leftovers Foundation. Other students included Larissa Crawford, who runs Future Ancestors, which provides consulting, training, and research for aspiring social entrepreneurs.
